Every Day Matters: Supporting Our Tamariki at Dyer Street

At Dyer Street School, we believe that every day counts. Regular attendance isn’t just about academic success; it’s about the sense of belonging and the “daily magic” that happens when our tamariki learn and play together.

When your child is at school every day, they aren’t just hitting learning milestones; they are building the foundations for a bright future:

  • Stronger Connections: School is where friendships are forged. Consistent attendance helps children feel part of their peer group and reduces the “social catch-up” that happens after an absence.

  • Building Momentum: Learning is like a kōwhaiwhai pattern—each piece connects to the next. Attending regularly ensures there are no gaps in their understanding, making learning feel easier and more fun.

  • Developing Resilience: Establishing a “show up” habit early in life builds great routines and the grit needed to tackle challenges as they grow older.

  • A Sense of Security: Predictable routines help tamariki feel safe. Knowing what to expect each day at school reduces anxiety and boosts their confidence to participate.

Working Together

We know that life happens—illness and family emergencies are part of the journey. However, where possible, we encourage all our whānau to aim for 90% attendance or higher.

If you are finding it difficult to get your child to school, please reach out to us. We are a team, and we are here to support you in ensuring your tamariki can make the most of every day at Dyer Street.
